Welcome to the Information and Library Services tutorial on using Lexis Nexis Academic to find Legal News articles. This presentation takes a minute and a half to watch and will show you how to use the Lexis Nexis Academic database to find the full text of articles from legal news sources.

To find legal news articles in Lexis Nexis Academic, first click on “Sources”.

Next, click on “Browse Sources”.

Then, click on the “Legal News” link.

On the next screen, select the “Multiple / Single Source” pulldown menu.

Select “Multiple Source Files” from the menu.

Then, click the check boxes next to the four legal news entries that appear in the lower left-hand corner of the next page.

After the boxes have been checked, click on the “OK – Continue” button.

You’ll be taken to a search screen where you enter your search terms. Here I’m going to search for articles on Supreme Court justice Elena Kagan. You can use the “Specify Date” menu to limit your search to all articles in the database, to articles published during a specific range of dates, or to articles published on a specific date.

After you’ve entered your keywords, click on the “Search” button. For tips on entering your keywords into Lexis Nexis Academic, click on the Lexis Search Tips link in the Legal Research Guide.

On the next screen, you’ll be given a list of articles that contain your keywords arranged chronologically. You can click on the title of any of them to see the full text of the article.

And here’s the text of the article that I selected. All articles in Lexis Nexis Academic are immediately available in full text.

Thank you for watching this tutorial. If you have any questions about using Lexis Nexis Academic to find legal news articles, or about any other type of research, please contact the Library. We’re available 24-7.
