Commence Speaker and Singer

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Keynote speakers will offer reflections and congratulations to graduates at each of the university's commencements.

Keynote speakers will be announced in early May. For the full press release regarding UMUC's Adelphi commencement speakers, visit our Global Media Center.

The Xfinity Center ceremonies will be available for live viewing via webcast. To access the webcasts visit umuc.edu/commencement starting 15 minutes before each ceremony.

The doctoral commencement will not be webcast live; however, video of the complete ceremony will be archived on our previous commencements page starting in June.

STUDENT SPEAKERS

Eligible graduates are encouraged to apply to deliver the student speech at 2018 Spring Commencement. The speech is a UMUC tradition and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acknowledge and congratulate your fellow graduates.

To qualify, you must have earned your degree in winter 2018 or have applied to receive it in spring 2018. (If you are a spring graduation candidate, you must be in good academic standing.)

Student speakers will

  • Offer words of thanks to the faculty, family, and friends whose support has kept the graduates motivated and encouraged
  • Participate in preceremony speech revisions, coaching sessions, and an in-person rehearsal on May 11 (doctoral rehearsal is May 10)

Each ceremony will have its own student speaker. The selected speakers will march in with the platform party and sit on stage during the ceremony. Student speakers at the Saturday and Sunday ceremonies also receive
