XFINITY CENTER

Commencement for associate, bachelor's, and master's degree graduates of University of Maryland University College will take place at the Xfinity Center. View floor plans for the XFinity Center. The center is located at 8500 Paint Branch Drive, College Park, MD 20742, on the campus of University of Maryland, College Park. View a map of the College Park campus.

SEATING FOR GRADUATES

Graduates will sit in reserved seating on the arena floor; UMUC staff will direct them to their seats as they march in when the ceremony starts.

SEATING FOR GUESTS

Guests may sit anywhere in the stands—except in marked areas reserved for guests with special needs. Seating is first come, first served.

CONCESSIONS

Limited concessions will be open inside the Xfinity Center before and after the ceremony. Water, soft drinks, and other nonalcoholic beverages will be available along with an assortment of snack foods.

IDENTIFY A MEETING PLACE

At the end of the ceremony, graduates will be ushered from the floor of the Xfinity Center and won't be able to walk directly into the stands. You should arrange ahead of time where to meet after the ceremony. We suggest picking a spot outside one of the main entrance gates. Large colored balloon towers are placed outside of each gate and serve as convenient meeting spots.

POOR CELLULAR CONNECTIONS AND NO WI-FI ACCESS

The Xfinity Center is a basketball arena built of steel, concrete, and other materials that can inhibit cellular connections. Connectivity on the lower level can be especially poor. We recommend that you plan to meet at an agreed-upon location rather than trying to call or text during or after the ceremony. There's no public Wi-Fi access. The Xfinity Center has a dedicated Wi-Fi network, but it's secure and reserved for students enrolled at University of Maryland, College Park.

NO BALLOONS

Please do not bring balloons to commencement. We do not sell balloons at the event, and they are not allowed inside the Xfinity Center. Balloons can contain dangerous gases, and they may block the view of other guests during the ceremony.

NO NOISEMAKERS

Commencement is a special event for everyone in attendance. Please be considerate and silence all electronic devices during the ceremony. Air horns and other noisemakers are prohibited.

LOST AND FOUND

Please ask any UMUC staff member at commencement about lost items. We leave items that are found in the Fan Assistance Booth at the Xfinity Center. After May 14, please inquire about lost items at commencement@umuc.edu.

WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBILITY

While the Xfinity Center is wheelchair accessible, it does not provide wheelchairs for visitors.

BAG RESTRICTIONS/SECURITY

All bags are subject to search.

Only the following types of bags will be allowed into the Xfinity Center:

  • Bags made of clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC that do not exceed 12 inches high x 6 inches deep x 12 inches wide
  • One-gallon clear plastic storage bags (e.g., Ziploc brand or similar bag)
  • Small clutch bags no larger than 4.5 inches high x 6.5 inches wide

No other bags can be brought into the Xfinity Center. The list of unauthorized items includes, but is not limited to, the following:
